Exercises in Healing

Contemporary Calgary had an event called NEXT2016 showing solo exhibitions by several emerging artists including myself. I was pleased to use the opportunity to create a collaborative performance with four members of the Calgary Philharmonic. For this project, I wanted to cross the often discrete disciplines and communities of visual art and music, to build community and see what it would be like to make art from a more disciplinary and physically holistic standpoint. My instrument, the treadmill, set the pace for our rendition of Bill Ryan’s “Blurred,” which started out slow, was brought to a sprint, and then was brought to a cool-down over a 30-minute period. My body and the pace mirrored the crescendo of musical compositions, and in a way the life cycle of any art career or even our presence on this earth. We did this performance twice on Nov 24th, 2026, which was a good hour of running for me.

The poster above was made available for free to all guests of the performance.
