Kistapinânihk/Omaniciye Makoca/Tł’ogh tëlë/The Gathering Place
This room was developed for the Prince Albert Historical Society (PAHS) with the generous support, consultation, and friendship with Knowledge Keepers from the Dakota Oyate, Paskwâwiyiniwak (Plains Cree), Muskegowiniyak (Swampy Cree), Sakâwithiniwak (Woodland Cree), DënesułIne, and Âpihtaw’kosânak (Métis) Nations who hold the deepest knowledge of this region.
PAHS and the committee of Elders and Knowledge Keepers hired me as a researcher and exhibit designer to compile and add to their work to date to create a permanent exhibit teaching the public about the six Indigenous histories of the Kistapinânihk/Omaniciye Makoca/Tł’ogh tëlë/The Gathering Place region (Prince Albert and area) under their direction and collaboration. After five years of work (for which I joined the last 1.5 years), the exhibit opened November 2022.
It was one of the most rewarding projects of my life and I will always be grateful to the Elders and Knowledge Keepers, as well as the PAHS staff and community for including me in the exhibit.
Visit the Prince Albert Historical Museum to see the permanent exhibit in-person and explore their collection.
